YOUR LOCAL SHiFT MOVEMENT

WAYS TO GET INVOLVED

  • If you are working in an area where there is an existing SHiFT Practice, from time to time you will be invited to nominate young people to work intensively with a SHiFT Guide for 18 months. Nominations should be for children and young people whose needs are not currently being met by existing services, and where there are significant and ongoing concerns. Each SHiFT Practice is shaped by priorities agreed with the local authority, which will be reflected in the invitation to nominate.

Please complete the nomination form in full. Incomplete forms may not be processed. Detailed nominations help us identify which children and young people are most likely to benefit from SHiFT.

    Strong nominations clearly describe:

    • The child or young person’s current context, experiences, and relationships

    • Unmet and complex needs, including concerns about engagement with services or escalating risk

    • Risks of harm inside and outside the home

    • How need may present differently (for example for girls, children with SEND, or those experiencing poor mental health)

  • The strategy, operations and practice quality of each SHiFT Practice is overseen by a Local SHiFT Board - a strategic partnership Board with multidisciplinary and multi-system representation, which provides the formal mechanisms for working with the national SHiFT team.

The Local SHiFT Board ensures that the SHiFT Practice delivers the core SHiFT Programme requirements as outlined in the SHiFT Framework and SHiFT Ways, within agreed budgets and timescales.

The Local SHiFT Board meets three times a year, in person wherever possible. At least once a year the Board’s meeting takes the form of a System Learning Workshop - a chance to examine in detail the experiences of children and families SHiFT is working with to surface system level insight and improvement actions.
